BUCKLE UP NEW YORK, CLICK IT OR TICKET:

This month, from May 18 to 31, the Ogden Police Department will again join local and national law enforcement officers and highway safety advocates across the country for the 2015 national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization.

Officers enforce seat belt laws year round, but during the mobilization, there is a concentration on cracking down on motorists who fail to wear their seat belts, both day and night – no warnings, no excuses.

High visibility, zero tolerance enforcement such as the Click It or Ticket mobilization is credited with increasing the national belt usage rate from 58 percent in 1994 to an observed usage rate of 87 percent in 2013.  Here in Ogden, the observed rate is even higher.  Yet, despite these gains, 9580 unrestrained occupants died in crashes in the nation in 2013.  Nearly half of all motor vehicle occupants who died in crashes were unrestrained.  These statistics are just too high.
Seat belts save thousands of lives each year across America so it continues to be a priority among law enforcement and traffic safety officials.
Remember to wear your seat belt, not just from May 18 to 31, not just during the day, but all the time.  You will save the cost of a ticket and may even save a life.

Shopping Online?

Its that time of year again, and people are shopping for gifts online more than ever. Unfortunately, crooks like to take advantage of this hectic time by crafting all sorts of online scams.

To help keep crooks away from robbing your holiday cheer, follow these simple suggestions:

  • Secure personal computers with a firewall and anti-virus software.
  • Keep personal information & passwords private. Do not respond to requests to "verify" your credit card information. It could be a trick.
  • Beware of "Bargains" from unfamiliar companies or shop with companies you know.
  • Use secure websites for purchases. Look for the padlock icon at the bottom of your screen, or the "HTTPS" within the URL address.
  • Do not respond to online solicitations for charities. If you are interested in giving to a charity, first do a through checkup with their online process.
  • Consider alternate options to pay for the merchandise, such as disposable credit cards or money orders. Perhaps there is a local storefront nearby you can visit instead.
