National Click It or Ticket Campaign:

If you are not wearing your seat belt, you are risking serious injury or death.  That is why the Ogden Police Department will be participating in the Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign from May 23 through June 5.

The department will fund this campaign through a Police Traffic Services Grant that was awarded by the NYS Governor’s Highway Traffic Safety Committee.  During the enforcement period, officers will observe a “zero-tolerance” approach for all vehicle occupants who fail to comply with the State seat belt regulations.  The New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law requires the use of seat belts by:

All front seat occupants regardless of age.All rear seat passengers under age 16.All children under 4 years old must be secured in a federally approved child safety seat.Children ages 4 through their 8th birthday must be properly secured in an appropriate child-restraint system, one that meets the child’s height and weight recommendations according to the child restraint manufacturer.

Shopping Online?

Its that time of year again, and people are shopping for gifts online more than ever. Unfortunately, crooks like to take advantage of this hectic time by crafting all sorts of online scams.

To help keep crooks away from robbing your holiday cheer, follow these simple suggestions:

  • Secure personal computers with a firewall and anti-virus software.
  • Keep personal information & passwords private. Do not respond to requests to "verify" your credit card information. It could be a trick.
  • Beware of "Bargains" from unfamiliar companies or shop with companies you know.
  • Use secure websites for purchases. Look for the padlock icon at the bottom of your screen, or the "HTTPS" within the URL address.
  • Do not respond to online solicitations for charities. If you are interested in giving to a charity, first do a through checkup with their online process.
  • Consider alternate options to pay for the merchandise, such as disposable credit cards or money orders. Perhaps there is a local storefront nearby you can visit instead.
