Welcome to the
Spencerport...Pathways to the Past virtual tour! This tour is an online version of a self-guided walking tour located in the Village of Spencerport, New York. The first walking tour was produced in 2003 and consisted of 25 photograph exhibits depicting life in old Spencerport. Each photograph was accompanied by a caption describing what life was like during that time. In many cases, the photographs were placed in such a way that you could look up and see the same view as depicted in the photo.
In 2004, 35 new photo exhibits were placed throughout the Village from June through October. In 2005, 25 new exhibits were created but were not on display for very long due to difficulties with the weather and equipment. We hope that the tour will return in 2006 with new exhibits and better staying power. The images from the 2005 tour will be reused, since few people actually had the opportunity to view them before they were damaged by water and sunshine.
The images shown on this virtual tour are those from 2003, 2004 and 2005. Browse through these photos and you will see what life was like when druggists still mixed medicine by hand, groceries arrived in town by canal boat, and a shave and a haircut really was “two-bits!”
The 2003 tour was funded jointly by the
