The Western Monroe County Genealogical Society

The WMCGS meets at the Ogden Library the third Wednesday of each month at 1:30 pm. The Society was formed in 1997 by a group of people who met at the library while doing family history research. This core group has helped guide the development of the Ogden Library's genealogy and local history collection, and has been responsible for the acquisition of many valuable items, such as plat books and Sanborn maps, for the library.

Members of the group meet informally every Wednesday in the reference area of the library and work on projects or help visitors with their research. Some of the projects initiated and completed by genealogy volunteers include:
  • Research and development of an Index to the Marriages and Deaths Which Appeared in the Brockport Republic, 1856-1917.

  • Research and development of Persons Buried in Ogden, a comprehensive index to every person buried in the Town of Ogden, with information drawn from death certificates, church records, cemetery records, and headstone & marker readings.

  • Research and development of an Index to the Inhabitants of Ogden taken from the 1790, 1800, 1810 and 1820 Federal Censuses.
This is just a small sampling of the work our genealogy volunteers do on a weekly basis. They are all expert researchers and eager to help people use the library resources, online and print, to research their family history. Some volunteers will make themselves available for consultations on days other than Wednesday. Contact Kay Hughes-Dennett, Library Director, at 585-617-6181 or by email to library@ogdenny.com for further information.
